Nutrient Agar is a general-purpose microbiological culture medium used for the cultivation and maintenance of a wide range of non-fastidious microorganisms. It is one of the most commonly used media in microbiology laboratories for routine bacterial culture, isolation, and colony morphology studies.
The medium contains peptone and beef extract which provide essential nutrients such as nitrogen, amino acids, vitamins, and growth factors, supporting the growth of many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Preparation Instructions
- Suspend 28 g of Nutrient Agar powder in 1 liter of distilled or purified water.
- Heat with continuous stirring until the medium dissolves completely.
- Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
- Cool the medium to 45–50°C and pour into sterile petri dishes.
- Allow the agar to solidify before inoculation.

Storage Conditions
